Installation of Butadeine Storage Sphere

Project Duration: January 2006 – January 2007
Project Features: Installation of new 4200m3 butadiene storage sphere and piping, including associated refrigeration plant and truck loading gantry.


Project Outline:

  • Provision of Construction Manager, Scheduler and Site Engineers and Supervisors during construction and commissioning.
  • Assistance with HAZOP, integration of HAZOP actions into design.
  • Preliminary site preparation; including site clearing, construction of amenities, temporary power, gas supply and fencing.
  • Synertec prepared documentation for tenders.
  • Provided drafting service and detailed process engineering.
  • Synertec managed the electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, civil and structural consultants.


Dow Chemicals contracted Terminals Pty Ltd to lease a facility in the Geelong area for the storage of Butadiene, required to support the local production of rubber and vinyl.

Terminal’s small project team utilised Synertec’s flexible and varied resources to quickly acquire skilled and experienced resources to assist during various phases of the project. The partnership between Synertec and Terminals ensured that the Butadiene facility satisfied the requirements of Dow Chemicals and all regulatory bodies.
